Every room of your apartment, no matter how small or big could use some tips and tricks to maximize the space. In some rooms, the task is very simple, as all you need is to get rid of the clutter, while in others, the task requires some serious decoration and placement of furniture in the room. In the bedroom, the most prominent piece of the furniture is the bed. Therefore, most of the tricks and tips for maximizing space are linked with the bed. The bed is not the easiest obstacle to work around, and sometimes valuable space is wasted due to the bed. Here are some tips to maximize your space in a small bedroom.

Reduce the size of the bed

It is very simple. Not every bedroom needs a king sized bed. We all would love to have a king sized bed, but the question is, do we actually need it, and can we afford it space wise? Measure your bed, and see how much you can reduce the size of the bed. You might sacrifice some comfort, but you will save valuable space and free up the room.

Remove large storage

Almost every bedroom has some large armoire or dresser that eats up half of the space of the bedroom. Sufficient to say, removing them will free up valuable space in your bedroom. One option is to opt for under the bed storage, where you can keep some of your clothes and belongings. Visually, the room will look more spacious, and you will get more space to play around. And let’s not forget the amount of natural light that will pour into the space.

Futon or sofa bed

IN small bedrooms, using and employing multifunctional furniture is more of a mandatory option than a choice. Let’s face it, while it might not look as beautiful as a true bed, futons and sofa beds save enormous amount of space in small rooms. Small apartments where there are many roommates are best suited for a futon bed. Both the sofa bed and the futon can transform into a different piece of furniture during the day, and into a bed for the night. Higher end models even come with leather and plusher mattresses.

Murphy bed

Same as with futon and sofa beds, Murphy beds are multifunctional choices suitable for small bedrooms. But unlike sofa beds and futons, the Murphy bed can “disappear” during the day. The Murphy bed can be pull in and out of the wall when needed. During the day, the bed can be hidden within the wall. There are even modern versions of Murphy beds that can serve as storage when the bed is within the wall.

Maximize wall storage

Walls are one of the most underrated parts of the bedroom. Many people forget to use and maximize the potential of the walls. In reality, walls can serve as storage options. Open and closed shelving can be fitted on the wall, floating shelves, nightstands and much more. There are countless options how you can maximize the wall space. It is up to you to decide how much of the “clean” wall you would love to use.

Organize the closet

Organizing the closet is one of the most important aspects of making your small bedroom look like a big bedroom. Utilize the vertical space of your closet, and store as much as you can in your closet. Always keep in mind that the more you store in the closet, the less you have to store in the main bedroom area. Storing clothes and other objects in the main bedroom area creates clutter, and clutter makes any room look small.
