Ask 100 people “what do they think of the interior design of a house or an office”, and 90 of them will answer something in the lines of the aesthetic aspect. What looks good, what doesn’t look good, etc… But the reality is that interior design has a huge affect on our mood, working atmosphere and productivity. Interior design should always be one of the first factors to consider when trying to maximize your productivity and improve your mood. The choices you make have a psychological effect on your emotions and perceptions.
Color
Color is the first and probably most important aspect of the interior design when it comes to psychological effects. As you are making a concept for your home, start thinking about the colors you want to use and introduce to your home. Let’s have a quick look of their effect.
Red is the color of passion and power, bringing warmth to spaces and environments. Red color makes every room and space feel more intimate.
Yellow is associated with happiness, creativity and creation in general. When there is a lot of natural light in the room, yellow is the best choice. It also works great in combination with neutral colors.
Orange brings energy and evokes innovation. However, be careful, as too much orange can have the opposite effect. It is best to use it with accessories.
Blue brings a sense of calmness and freshness to the room. The color is best used in areas with high traffic such as the bathroom, or offices where people go in and out all the time.
Green is the ideal color for an entry way, as it makes the transition from outside to inside smoother.
Black is the color we use when we want to assert our power, dominance and make a statement.
White, on the other hand, is a color that brings a sense of cleanliness and purity to the room. Make sure to combine it with other colors, or your environment will look sterile.

Furniture
When it comes to furniture, most people make the mistake of throwing everything into the space, and expect to sort itself out. When it comes to placement, the biggest mistake you can make is to place everything against the wall. This way, you are inviting negative energy into the room.
Try not to make everything symmetrical, as energy needs to flow in the space. Mix everything, and experiment as much as possible.
In an office environment, in order to improve productivity, include artwork with thematic such as sunshine, natural illumination, pyramids, feathers, silk, wool, cones, and natural sunlight.
For creativity, you need furniture made from wood, and also floral upholstery, drapes, pillars, and wall coverings.
Light and its power
Light is the most important aspect in regards of moodiness in the environment. The general rule of thumb is the more natural light, the better. Another aspect to take care is that windows should never be dirty or broken. Curtains and blinds provide coziness and privacy, but unless they are necessary, try to avoid them, as they prevent natural light flow.

What to do to improve productivity on work?
In a survey made in Britain, managers were asked what can be done to increase their productivity and the productivity of the workers in the office.
The most common answer was more and better light/daylight, followed by more meeting space and more personal space. In general, that means that you should not crowd the office with furniture and desks. Try to let people have their own space.
Some of the other answers included climate control, better furniture, and more storage.
All of the above applies for homeowners as well.
