HDB Contemporary With Vintage Elements

In essence, the apartment is done in a contemporary style, with some touches of Japanese style. Sometimes, just a single drop can be enough to mix a different style into the room.

In the living area, aside from the contemporary decorations, the designer places a bamboo plant for a Japanese touch. One of the subtle, yet interesting moments in the living area is the ceiling, or better said, the sky like effect.

In most cases, when designers opt for a sky effect on the ceiling, they opt for rectangular or square shapes. But in this case, the designer opts for an irregular shape and form.

In the living room, the designer also adds some vintage elements on the ceiling, a fan that the designer uses for both the living, and the sleeping area.

In the kitchen, we see another uncommon approach to the interior design. Every wall in the kitchen is covered with tiles. In most cases, only the floor and one wall are covered in tiles in the kitchen, but here, we get a fully tiled kitchen.

In a true Scandinavian spirit, the apartment aims at achieving clean and neat environment, while still keeping character and style in it.

The designer sticks to a timeless and simple, yet very efficient decorating in the living room. Mixing neutral colours with the natural colour of the timber wood is a great way to achieve warmth.

The flooring is done with timber, while all the elements in the living area are in neutral and bright colours for the contrast. As mentioned, the designer sticks to simple, clear and straight lines, echoed by the ceiling in the living area.

In the kitchen, however, the designer tries a different approach. Instead of simple and elegant, he goes for interesting and funky. The kitchen is done in clean and professional way.

The unique factor is the floating cabinet, with installed light under it. The floating effect is what makes the kitchen unique and special.

And in the dining room, we see another use of funky approach. The grey, asphalt look tiles are combined with yellow stripes, just like it is on streets. It gives an urban and funk feeling to the room.

Sometimes, you need just one element to completely change the outlook of a room. What happens here is that one element adds just a little touch of a different style to the timeless modern design. And that is what makes it so special.

The dining and the living room are done in a traditional way, and they look like most of the living areas in modern style. But add a crystal chandelier to the dining room, and suddenly you have a new apartment.

Combine it with several light sources for illumination, and the result is bright room with a signature element.

Accessories and decorations are characteristic for baroque, but here, they are done included in an elegant and classy way with shelves just for decorations.

In the small bedroom, we see a unique way how to add a flash of colour to a monochromatic interior. The colourful folders on the floating shelve are an excellent way for spicing up the white and grey room.

And in the master bedroom, the designer places another crystal chandelier for a luxurious and prestigious feeling. The fabrics, colours and materials in the living room are all top notch quality, enriching the room and adding depth.

Cement For Uniqueness In All White Design At Tanglin Regency

All white designs tend to be boring, oversimplified and dull. But there are always ways you can change that. Sometimes, texture is the way to go, which is what happens in this apartment.

A cement screed wall in the living area, placed in the TV feature wall adds personal touch and style to the environment. Additionally, the cement and its grey colour is the perfect contrast to the white interior.

In the kitchen, the all white theme continues. But same as with the living area, the designer adds just a little touch. Just one line of grey tiles works wonderfully, and it also serves as a reminder of the cement screed that is visible all around the house.

The only room that obviates from the cement theme is the master bedroom. Here, we see a classic elegant and simple design in black and white. The bed is floating just enough.

Not too high for storage, but not too low to be glued to the ground as well. While there is no way to add storage underneath it, the floating effect looks stunning.

And in the bathroom, we again see the use of cement creed, with the goal here to make the room looking wider.

Every now and then, an all white interior design needs some splash of colour of an object that adds character. Sometimes, that can be achieved with texture, and sometimes, with colour.

In this case, the all white living room has been enriched with a natural wood TV feature wall. Aside from the colour, that is the perfect contrast to the all white design, the wall is unique due to one more element.

The TV feature wall has two little, subtle glass lines. They don’t serve as mirrors, but their goal is to introduce another material to the interior design of the room.

In the kitchen, we see the industrial touch with ceiling lights and lamps that look like they’ve came from a warehouse.

The bed in the bedroom is lifted from the floor, but the platform offers a lot of storage room under the mattress. Another element worthy of mentioning in the bedroom is the art picture above the headboard. The picture adds industrial elements in subtle way.

7 Tips To Avoid Renovation Fraud

Source: www.facebook.com/singaporepoliceforce

You have probably heard of complaints against contractors or interior design companies for incomplete work and services.

The Singapore Police Force receives such complaints regularly that it has posted warnings on its Facebook page to warn consumers about being careful when engaging renovation services.

Whether it is to protect yourself against scammers that take your money and run or contractors who produce shoddy work, here are 7 tips to consider when engaging a contractor or interior design firm.

1. Physical Location
Make sure you know where your contractor’s business is physically located. It is always best to arrange a meeting with your contractor or interior designer at his or her office so that you can verify that he or she operates a legitimate business.

2. Check With ACRA
Another way to find out if the contractor is operating a legitimate business is to check with the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) to confirm that the renovation company is a registered business. Go to the BizFile website to look up registered companies.

3. Registered HDB Renovation Contractor
If you are renovating a HDB flat, check to see if the renovation contractor is a HDB Registered Renovation Contractor on HDB’s website before you proceed with signing a contract with the contractor.

Such contractors are registered under the HDB Renovation Contractors’ Scheme meant to ensure that service providers engaged by homeowners are regulated and do not damage the building structure when carrying out renovation.

4. Current Onging Projects
Another background check on the legitimacy of a renovation contractor is to take a look at his or her past projects and clients. The contractor / ID should be able to produce a portfolio or a list of clients. If possible, make enquiries with past clients to check on the background and services provided by the contractor.

5. Upfront Payment
In addition to background checks, another way to avoid scams is to avoid paying for the job upfront. Sure, some contractors require customers to pay an initial deposit before commencing work, but be wary of contractors who ask for full payment before the renovation is completed.

6. Hand Written Contract
Make sure to write down all the work needed to be done in the contract to avoid being short-changed. This is to ensure that everything that the contractor has promised will be done.

Be wary of contractors who verbally agree and insist on not needing to list down every job in the contract because they may just go back on their word.

7. Second Opinion
You’ve probably heard of situations where contractors tell customers that they have run into unforeseen circumstances and may need to do additional work.

While these additional work and additional fees may be genuine, it is important to get a second opinion before proceeding. This is to avoid contractors from pulling a quick one to get more money from you.

Also, before signing the contract, make sure it includes a procedure for change orders—that is mini contract that specifies work description and fixed prices for any additional work that needs to be done.

The extra work whether it is due to unforeseen issues or homeowner’s whims can proceed only after both the contractor and the homeowner signs the change order.

Modern Contemporary 3D Design With Neutral Colours

Neutral colors are always easy on the eye, they can be combined with other colours, and they create a sense of flow in the environment. What we see here are three different designs of a room.

In the first case, a neutral, creamy colour scheme has been used. By using different shades of the colour, the designer mixes and matches all elements of the room together.

But the signature element of the room is the glass cabinet. Glass cabinets have risen in popularity in recent years, as they allow owners to display their precious items, all while preventing dust.

In the second case, we have a bedroom with a TV feature wall installed. But the designer goes a step further, and adds book shelves beneath, above and on the sides of the TV. The whole TV cabinet is built into the wall.

Last, but not least, we see an example of how neutral colours and texture can be mixed into one room. There are more than four different textures on the walls in the room, but since they all descend from one primary neutral colour (brown), they work extremely well together.

HDB Scandinavian Style Using Natural Wood

Wood is one of the natural materials that designers often use to achieve a Scandinavian outlook. And while many opt for laminate and other forms of processed wood, in this case, we have natural wood.

Combined with the bright colours of the walls, the wood and its natural colour really is in the focus of the environment, and the rich colour of the wood makes the rooms look as quality as possible.

In the living room, there is the least amount of wood, but the there are little possibilities. There are two elements that make the living area special. The first one is the wooden club table, with its retro outlook.

The second one are the shelves next to the TV feature wall. The designer has installed illumination in the background, which helps emphasize the decorations within it.

In the dining area, we see the quality and richness of the natural wood in full display. The dining table is again in retro and vintage style, but the richness and depth of the wood helps the table fit in this modern and Scandinavian environment.

In the kitchen, it is all about texture and finishing. Even the kitchen elements are not flat, as we are used to see them. The slight embedment of the kitchen elements helps create a playful and interesting environment.

HDB BTO 4-Room Contemporary Use of Mirror And Glass At Sengkang

The main approach in the living and the dining area is the use of glass and mirrors. Contemporary design always asks for mirrors, as they are one of the main elements. In this case, the designer uses mirrors and glass in a unique way.

The kitchen is fully separated from the dining area with a glass panel, but since it is transparent, you get the feeling they are one room. Additionally, in the living area, one full wall is made out of glass, again with the goal of separating rooms.

Getting to the bedrooms, we see another approach of the designer, and that is the use of texture. In the master bedroom, the headboard is the home for experimenting with texture.

A built in wardrobe saves space, and the lamps on the nightstand add a bit of retro style and touch to the room.

The children’s bedroom also follows the texture approach. An abundance of different wallpapers have been used in the children room, but they all follow one common topic: girly childish design.

All the wallpapers are in line with the girly theme of the room, not just with design, but with the pale pink colour as well.

Scandinavian design usually implies bright, white and cream colours. But who’s to say that Scandinavian interior cannot survive a splash of colour?

In this case, the colour splash is not too much to overwhelm the interior, but it certainly is different than what we are used to see in Scandinavian designs.

In the living area, the designer adds sky blue colour on the furniture, and grass green in the entry way. Both colours are not common for Scandinavian design.

But the best part about the living room is the small, brick wall that serves three purposes. First, it is a TV feature wall. Second, the wall separates the living area from the entry way. And third, since it is a brick wall, it adds a rich tone of red to the room.

What the designer managed to do in the living area is extraordinary. One small room has been transformed in three different rooms: living, dining and entry way. Once you get to the kitchen, you are greeted by more common Scandinavian style.

However, there are touches of industrial style, mainly in the metallic frames. In a Scandinavian spirit, one of the walls in the kitchen is covered with laminate.

Another important aspect of the kitchen is the kitchen island, which is floating a bit, and the illumination beneath creates a special and unique effect.

The bedroom is another example of mixing and matching style. While wood and nature dominate the room, the ceiling light is clearly industrial style.

HDB 4-Room With Clean Lines For Contemporary Outlook

In this design, there is only one theme and that is to keep things as simple as possible. The clean and neat look is achieved by using clean, straight lines, and smooth surfaces without many details.

Let’s start from the living room, where the one thing that pops up is the least important part of the room. That is the clock, which helps add a splash of colour to the room with neutral colours.

Another interesting aspect of the design is how the shelves pop up out of the wall. Both shelves, the one next to the TV and the other more far away are floating, which helps for the achieving the effect.

In the living room, the designer has also added a study/office room, but the room is separated from the environment with glass panels. It is an apartment within the apartment.

The glass panels with black frames look dramatic, and in a room with neutral colours, a little drama is always welcomed.

Starting from the platform, which literally provides gives the feeling you are entering a new, and better world, to the king size round bed, and finishing with the drapes and romantic curtains.

For the bedroom, luxury and royal feeling is what comes to mind first. The designer has introduced a series of elements in order to make the bedroom as comfortable and as royal as possible.

Whenever you go for an all white design of the home, you need something that will help you break the monotony. White is the most commonly used achromatic colour. It is a symbol of purity, cleanliness, freshness and perfection.

Starting from the living and dining area, we see how clean and neat the room looks thanks to the all white design. But few tricks help achieve this look. Here, the designer introduces black contrast with frames on the furniture and a square around the ceiling on the wall.

The three kitchens share a common theme, which is the all white design. But in the three cases, a metallic grey colour, introduced thanks to the appliances emphasizes the white and its clean outlook.

In an era where modern designed apartments look very similar, it is refreshing to see out of the box thinking. What we have here is a modern apartment, but with few elements that evoke a farmhouse and barn feeling.

Starting from the entry hall, the designer has created a garden like entry, which is very inviting and pleasing. Next to the “garden turf”, the designer places a bench like shoe cabinet with pillows which works ideally in contrast with the garden.

The living area and the dining area are connected, but also separated. In the living area, the designer creates different corners, and separates them seamlessly thanks to different design.

In the living area, the designer has achieved that warmth of the countryside thanks to the brick like walls with texture, opposed to the warm colour of timber flooring.

The kitchen follows the thematic of clean lines and minimalistic style. All the elements are placed on one side of the wall, and the elimination of the kitchen island in the middle allows for more space for movement and creates fuss free environment.

Black And White Modern At Anchorvale Crescent

On first glance, the apartment looks like any other modern decorated apartment. But look through the features, and you’ll notice there is something unique in every room.

Starting from the living area, which is spacious and decorated in minimalistic style, the designer has used bricks as a feature on both walls, adding texture to make it unique. A lunar crescent chair for relaxation doesn’t hurt as well.

The dining area is as spacious as possible, as the designer has placed just one kitchen island with chairs on both sides. The dining area is actually entrance to the kitchen, but it occupies large space.

In the kitchen, the black finishing on the elements provides dramatic feeling, while the quarts top is the vow factor. You might not notice the quarts on first glance, but it is a material that adds quality factor to the kitchen.

The bedroom looks more spacious thanks to the fact that there is no wardrobe in it. The solution that the designer provides is a sliding door entrance to a walk in wardrobe.

The trick to make one small apartment look like a big apartment is to manage to pull different corners for different purpose in the living area.

The designer manages that goal to perfection. The living area features three different corners: the main corner with the TV, the dining corner, and a study corner.

Even the kitchen is of open concept, but separated from the living area with glass panels. However, with the glass being transparent, it gives the whole area bigger picture and outlook.

Going back to the living area, the modern industrial outlook is clearly visible. With brick like texture on the TV wall, and industrial lighting on the ceiling, all the basic and core principles are there.

As for the study corner, the best part about is the sliding ladder. We rarely see a sliding ladder in a small HDB apartment, but it works perfectly here. The ladder is perfect for both visual and practical purposes.

In the kitchen, the designer opts for a different style, going rustic as opposed to the modern living area. The wood finishing on the elements fit nicely with the quarts top.

The bed in the bedroom is placed on a lifted platform, with illumination beneath it. Additionally, the bedroom features a seating area next to the windows.

Every modern apartment needs a little twist, tweak and some kick to make it special. In this case, one of the tricks that the designer has used to add some unique factor to the environment is the lime green colour that perfectly blends with the neutral outlook of the environment.

In the living and dining area, there is only one wall in lime green, but it is more than enough. Besides, it is the TV cabinet and wall that attracts attention in the living area.

With focus illumination on the cabinet, and just one square with glass enriched with decorations, the cabinet pops out.

The dining area is an interesting corner as well, and it looks more like a bistro, or a small coffee shop than a dining area. A bench chair, coupled with chairs common for coffee bars helps create the effect.

The bedroom is the true quintessence of a natural outlook. The lime green color on the walls is perfect next to the natural timber finishing on the floor and the headboard and TV feature wall.
